WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Officials at Purdue University proposed Thursday a tuition freeze and reduced frees at its Indiana campuses

The proposal, which must be approved by the board of trustees, would freeze tuition for two years for students on the main West Lafayette campus. Students at Purdue's three regional campuses--IPFW, Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central--would see a 2 percent tuition and fee increase.

Additionally, the price of meal plans would be cut 5 percent for all Purdue students.

"This is the right thing to do for students and families," Mitch Daniels, Purdue University president, said in a statement. "Keeping higher education affordable and accessible, especially for science and engineering degrees, is the best form of economic development Purdue can provide."

The board of trustees must approve the proposal for changes to take effect. The board's executive committee will hold a public hearing on May 22 on the proposal. A vote from the executive committee is expected at the meeting.

Three previously approved increases for student wellness & fitness, student activity and engineering differential fees will go through.
