KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- A Mentone man was arrested on multiple charges Saturday night after a short foot pursuit near Palestine Lake.

Matthew Billan Mahaska, 20, tried to flee police custody after having been served with two active warrants. One warrant was for felony theft and the other was for felony failure to appear.

Mahaska had already been detained and handcuffed when he turned and ran towards homes near Palestine Lake. Officers gave chase through various yards and apprehended him a short distance from their squad cars.

Mahaska has now been served with preliminary charges of resisting/fleeing law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia. He is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail with a bond of $17,500.
