FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- If you have plans to travel this holiday weekend, you are not alone.

In fact, you will be sharing the road with an estimated 29.7 million people who plan on traveling 50 or more miles. Also on the road, an increased police presence.

Additional Indiana State Troopers will be out on patrol and they are encouraging travelers to please be responsible.

"What we are simply asking people is to take responsibility for their actions, not only this weekend, but every day of the year. so if alcohol is going to be a part of what every you are going to do this weekend, we want you to take responsibility for that. Have somebody designated to drive you to and from," says Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz. "If you are in the city of Fort Wayne, use public transportation that is available. What ever amount of money it costs you to use a cab, that will be the best money you've spent all weekend."

State police won't be the only ones out. A total of 250 police agencies in the state will be out on patrol over Labor Day weekend.
