TRI-LAKES, Ind. (21Alive) - A man at the center of a manhunt in Whitley County on Tuesday afternoon was captured Tuesday night.
Anthony McClellan, 23, was taken into custody around 8:45, according to the Whitley County Sheriff's Department.
Initial reports say McClellan was spotted near Goss Grocery in Whitley County, and wound up in a creek before his apprehension.
Police say McClellan is suspected of battery of an Albion woman earlier in the day.
An Indiana State Police trooper spotted McClellan around 2 p.m. near SR109 and CR700N in Whitley County, and tried to stop McClellan.
The suspect turned right from SR109 to Lakeshore Drive, eventually coming to a dead end. As the trooper exited his unmarked police car, police say McClellan turned his vehicle around in an attempt to run over the officer.
The trooper shot his gun at McClellan, who fled on food into a wooded area, police say.
Police set up a perimeter, flew an airplane over the search area and went door-to-door looking for the suspect.
The search was called off by 6:30 with no sight of McClellan.
Big Lake Church of God Daycare & Preschool were put on lockdown, for about two hours, during the search.
McClellan was wanted on unrelated meth, theft, battery and illegal driving charges.
