Pink Flag Raised Over The Old Fort

May 1, 2014 Updated May 1, 2014 at 3:01 PM EST

FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- In recognition of "Turn The Town Pink" a pink flag was raised over the Old Fort this afternoon.

The flag will remain flying throughout the month, except during weekend events. The tradition began in 2012 when several volunteers lost their mothers to breast cancer.

"Turn The Town Pink" is a month long event sponsored by Vera Bradley to support the fight against breast cancer.
