FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – If you're thinking about getting a flu shot, it's not too late! The new Physicians Urgent Care is offering free flu shots.
Connie Lubbenhusen, a physician assistant at Physicians Urgent Care, says one of the reasons they’re offering free flu shots is to promote awareness since they’re relatively new to Fort Wayne, and also because there is a need.
“We have had an enormous response to this,” she said. “Also this is a heavy flu season and meeting the needs of the community is always something that Physicians is considering."
The virus seems to be hitting Fort Wayne hard, as Lubbenhusen says their waiting room has been full of people sick with the flu.
"We are actually seeing one to two cases a week regularly in our clinic. There are significant amounts of flu in the area."
Lubbenhusen says the free flu shot is available for anyone who is six months of age or older, but recommends certain people in particular get it.
"The elderly are recommended,” she said. “If you have any chronic health conditions, you're recommended. Basically six months to no end."
However, if you’re interested in getting the free flu shot, Lubbenhusen says you should come in right away because they have limited supply.
"They're going fast… but [we'll give out] as much as we have. I think we have about another 100 doses right now,” she said.
Physicians Urgent Care is located at 920 E. Coliseum Blvd. in Fort Wayne. Their hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
