Car Hits And Kills Pedestrian On Lima Rd.

FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- A woman is dead after a car struck a pedestrian on Lima Rd. this morning.

The incident happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. this morning according officials from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers responded to the scene around 6:15 a.m. and located the victim laying in the roadway.

The victim was unconscious and unresponsive when officers located her. She was pronounced dead shortly after when paramedics and fire personnel arrived.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was walking southbound in the far west lane of southbound Lima Rd.. According to police the dark lighting and the victim wearing all dark clothing contributed to the driver not being able to see the victim on the road.

The Driver of the vehicle was on the scene and interviewed by investigators. It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
