FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Sometimes heroes aren't those who wear a uniform, but instead are everyday people.

That was the idea behind the Fort Wayne Fire Department's Service Awards Tuesday night.

The awards are held not only to honor firefighters who've given outstanding service, but also to honor ordinary citizens who've shown extraordinary character.

Some of the citizens honored are Joseph and Jaclyn McGuigan, who were granted the Citizen Meritorious Award, and Brittany Williams, who was given the Citizens Valor Award.

Watch the video to hear what the McGuigans and Williams have to say.
