One Person Dead, 4 Others Injured In Decatur Crash (VIDEO)

DECATUR, Ind. (21Alive) – A woman is dead and four more are sent to the hospital after an accident on U.S. 27 in Decatur.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday near County Road 850 N. and U.S. 27.

Police say the rear left wheel of the SUV driven by 47-year old Tyler Cowans of Decatur, came off causing him to lose control.

Police say the SUV went off the road and rolled, causing a woman in the front passenger seat to be ejected through the windshield. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say three other passengers, a 19-year Mariah Cowans, 18-year old Rick Stults of Geneva, and 1-year old Jaiden Cowans, along with Tyler Cowans were air lifted to Lutheran Hospital with internal injuries.

Police say the Tyler Cowans and the front seat passenger weren't wearing their seatbelts.

Police identified the woman as 49-year-old Ronda L. Cowans.
