Power Restored To Whitely County Customers

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- At about 6:30 Friday morning power was lost to about 8,600 REMC and I&M customers in Whitley County.

Traffic lights were not working until a little after 11 a.m.

According to Indiana Michigan Power, 1,400 I&M customers and several thousand Northeaster REMC customers lost power in the Whitley County area. At approximately 9:15 a.m. all I&M customers and all but 2,000 Northeastern REMC were switched to a different power source.

However, doe to overloading with increasing daytime residential demands, the approx. 1,400 customers that were restored, were back out of power. Northeastern REMC reported that 1,000 customers remained without power.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., all power was restored to Whitley County customers.

The Whitley County Emergency Management Agency had opened several warming centers around the county for residents to seek shelter from the cold, they are: Chrubusco Fire Dept, City Hall Council Room, Whitley County Government Center Room C, Columbia City YMCA, and St Mathews Church SR9/500 N
