New Tech Teacher Receives 'Oscar Of Teaching' Award (VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A New Tech High School teacher from Fort Wayne Community Schools, received a prestigious aware Thursday morning, and it was a surprise.

Ginger Giessler taught English for years at Elmhurst before joining the staff at New Tech at Wayne High School.

She received the Oscar of Teaching award from the Milken Family Foundation and $25,000. Giessler told us she's honored and knows in her heart success in education can only come with a team effort.

"I'm still in utter shock at this moment. Overwhelmed with joy, and at the same time, this doesn't happen for all educators, Giessler said. "But I really want to share this with all the teachers because I feel like it's all of us together."

FWCS leaders were on hand for the presentation of the award which recognizes exceptional work by an educator who can serve as a model for the state and nation.
