NEW HAVEN, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Mayor Terry McDonald has confirmed what Indiana's NewsCenter reported this morning. Effective at 4:00 p.m. today Sgt. Steve Poiry will become the Chief of Police for the city of New Haven Police Department.

Poiry will replace Michael Sweet who will return to the patrol division as Sergeant. Sweet has been with the department for over 20 years, including nearly 12 as Police Chief.

Mayor McDonald's office issued a release saying "this is simply an organizational leadership change only and is not a result of any disciplinary issues. Mayor McDonald and the City of New Haven continue to hold Mike Sweet in high regard"

Sgt. Steve Poiry has been a police officer for New Haven since 1990.
