HAMMOND, Ind. (21Alive) -- A statue was recently unveiled in northwestern Indiana that is inspired by the "triple-dog dare" scene from the movie "A Christmas Story."
The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority in Hammond revealed a statue of one of the characters named "Flick" getting his tongue stuck to a flag pole. The actor who portrayed "Flick", Scott Schwartz, was present for the event at the authority's headquarters.
President and CEO Speros Batistatos told RTV6 that "the South Shore CVA wanted to do something special for our 30th anniversary, as well as the 30th anniversary of the holiday classic ‘A Christmas Story.'" The 1983 movie was based off the stories of a native of Hammond, Jean Shepard. The movie was set in the fictional northwestern Indiana town of Hohman.
Batistatos continued, "In honor of Jean Shepherd and the movie, the iconic 'Triple Dog Dare' scene is now immortalized on one of the Indiana Welcome Center’s flag poles."
