NEW HAVEN, Ind. (21Alive) – The city of New Haven could soon be without its 911 call center. In order to stay up to standards with the 911 center in Fort Wayne, they would have to undergo some major upgrades by next month.

It’s something that’s been in the works for awhile and unfortunately it’s not pocket change that New Haven needs for this update - it’s more than 100-thousand-dollars.

The Consolidated Communication Partnership of Allen County, or CCP, currently handles all other 911 calls in the county, aside from New Haven.

They have thirteen dispatchers working around the clock, while New Haven has only one.

As of now, the two 911 dispatch centers are synced, but won’t be any more if New Haven cannot afford the update by January 15th.

New Haven is asking the CCP for the funds to update, but discussions this morning leaned a little to the hesitant side.

Some are advocating for a merger of the two centers because they say it’s just more cost effective.

Director of the CCP says he fears New Haven will continuously ask for money if they are given the funds to stay afloat this year.

Allen County Council President, Darren Vogt says, “I understand why New Haven would want to hold the door to their own city. But should (Allen County) 911 be paying for that? I’m not sure that’s an appropriate expense.”

No agreement was reached today, but if New Haven does not have the technology update by the deadline, it will be shutdown. Allen County dispatch says that they have the resources and are more than willing to take on the additional work.
