Murder Charge Filed In Crash That Killed Dwenger Sophomore

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A man accused of a drunk driving crash that killed a teenage girl has now been charged with murder.

Allen County Prosecutors filed a murder charge Friday against Jeremy Washington, 35, of New Haven. Three counts of criminal recklessness were also added.

Police say around midnight on Mar. 29, Washington shot at another car in a parking lot outside Corner Pocket Pub, 3215 St. Joe Center Rd., then sped south on St. Joe Road. Washington is accused of running a red light at St. Joe/Hobson & Stellhorn Roads, and hit a car driven by Haley Nellum, 17, of Fort Wayne.

Nellum died at the scene.

Washington was previously charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of aggravated battery, one county of reckless homicide and two counts of causing death while operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He appears in court Monday.
