FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Schools from Northeast Indiana converge in Fort Wayne to go head-to-head with some smart opposition.

Middle school mathletes from area schools competed in the chapter competition of the MathCounts Competition Series in the Walb Union Ballroom on the IPFW campus Saturday.

The event was organized by the IPFW Department of Mathematical Sciences and College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science.

“This makes math fun and exciting to put it in a competition format, to have the students working individually or in teams. It is comparable to athletics, the students are working together and they have the support of their school and their teachers are their coaches, and everybody has a good time,” said Adam Coffman a Professor of Mathematics at IPFW.

A total of seven schools and approximately 50 students took part in the friendly clash. Teachers and students have been preparing for the competition since the Fall.
