STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) – A student nurse comes to the rescue of a man who crashed head on into a semi.

It happened around 10 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 20 at the toll road overpass in Steuben County.

Authorities say Brock J. Thompson, 25, of Angola was traveling west bound and pulled into the east bound lane to pass a semi. In doing that, authorities say Thompson pulled directly into the path of the semi being driven by Leonard L. Hutchison, 57, of Edon, Ohio.

Shortly after, authorities say a student nurse came upon the crash and provided first aid until medics arrived, which helped to save Thompson’s life.

Thompson sustained serious injuries to his head and lower body, and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The semi driver and his passenger were not hurt.
