INDIANAPOLIS (RTV6) -- A man was found dead in the snow on Indianapolis' east side Friday morning.
Indianapolis police said the body was found at 20 Koweba Ln., which is just off Washington Street, just before 8 a.m. in a brushy area behind two businesses known to police as a homeless camp.
It wasn't immediately known what caused the man's death, but investigators said it appeared the body had been there for several days.
The victim's uncle, who police said is also homeless, told RTV6's Julie Pursley that he had come Friday morning to check on the victim and couldn't wake him up.. He believes the man froze to death.
The victim's uncle said he last saw the man alive on Sunday and that the victim had been in and out of shelters previously, but was hard-headed and wanted to live on the streets.
Others who had been staying at the homeless camp apparently left during the bitter cold after the winter storm, police said.
The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine what caused the man's death.
