FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – A bizarre and twisted tale that involves accusations of shoplifting and child abduction. The man at the heart of it all is claiming nothing was as it appeared and he wants his story told.

The man involved says he wants his name cleared, but his identity kept secret.

Two 911 calls were made, but no charges filed as a man is thought to have shoplifted and abducted a child. His version of the story however, is much different.

He says he went into the “Do It Best” store on Illinois Road with his two-year-old daughter to buy fire alarms for his house. He claims he was approached by the manager as he was zipping up his diaper bag and she asked to check it. He says she checked the bag, found nothing, but she called police anyway.

"Why are you calling the cops on me? She says because I think you're shoplifting from this store,” he explained.

At that point the man says he left the store and when he went outside, he found his wife and three other children had left with the car and he didn't know where they were. He says he just began to walk around looking for them.

He says it was a few minutes later when he encountered a man yelling at him to stop where he was. It was at that time the second 911 call goes to police dispatch, this time about a possible abduction.

"In the area we had a security guard, security representative who spotted this individual running with the child in his arms. He believed that he was witnessing an abduction,” said Officer Raquel Foster with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The man claims the security guard pulled a gun on him and so he ran."I've got my daughter with me. I've got my life and her life to worry about, so I run.”

Fort Wayne Police respond to the abduction call.

"I run toward the cops and they all draw their guns on me...so this is the second time, in a 20 minute period, that I've had guns drawn on me in the first time in my entire life,” he said.

"The individual that the security guard witnessed was actually the shoplifting perpetrator fleeing with his child in his arms,” said Officer Foster.

After a full police investigation there were no charges filed and the man was released.

"I mean I'm a victim of...I don't know what you would call it, but I don't think this is fair. Nobody should have to go through this,” he said.

Police say this man is known as a shoplifter in the area, though we found no criminal records and the man says he has never stolen anything in his life.
As for “Do It Best”, we have not been able to make contact for a statement.
