FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A man is in critical condition following an early morning car crash.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. in front of the Rainbow Child Care Center on Dupont Rd. A Three Rivers Ambulance Authority supervisor was driving on Dupont and discovered the crash.

The supervisor provided medical treatment to the male victim until police and additional medics arrived on the scene. The victim was then taken to a local hospital. The victim was initially in serious condition but was downgraded to critical condition once at the hospital.

Initial reports indicate the man was the only one in the car and that he was driving east on Dupont, struck a curb and left the road. The car then struck a mailbox, traveled down a sidewalk and hit a utility pole.

According to police, it appears that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
