NEW HAVEN, Ind. (21Alive) – One man in New Haven is dead after being struck by a train.
Authorities say it happened Saturday night around 10:30.
21Alive was told by police that New Haven emergency crews were sent to the area of Landin Road and Rose Avenue on a personal injury accident involving a what appeared to be car and a train.
Police told 21Alive whey they arrived, they began checking the area and found a motorized wheelchair and the body of a male victim lying next to the stopped train in the 300 block of Main Street. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The conductor of the train told police the victim appeared to be leaning over in his chair as if he was trying to retrieve something. The conductor told police he took every possible measure to alert the victim of the oncoming train, but the man was unresponsive, and the conductor was unable to stop the train.
The Allen County Coroner has identified the victim as Paul Jude Larson, 66, of New Haven.
