Man Barricades Himself In Home For 3 1/2 Hours

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- An armed man caused a three-and-a-half hour stand off Sunday night in the 4000 block of Oliver street, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The altercation reportedly began when a male and female were in an altercation inside a residence. A roommate tried to intervene and the male produced a firearm. Officers arrived on the scene and the male suspect refused to leave the residence, the others inside were able to leave.

Around 4:53 p.m., the Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team responded to the situation. Officers from the CRT contacted the barricaded subject via telephone. He eventually complied and voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes for their safety during the standoff.

Charges for the suspect include Felony Domestic Battery and Strangulation. Further charges are pending.
