FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- The Bishop Luers High School community is reeling from the news that longtime football coach and athletic director Matt Lindsay was sacked over the weekend.

We've heard the gamut of rumors that we are certainly not going to repeat.

What we do know for sure is that the punishment was severe and quick.

During his tenure, Luers coach Matt Lindsay led the Knights to nine state championships, the last three in a row.

He has not responded to a request for a comment.

We know Luers principal Mary Keefer put Lindsay on administrative leave Thursday, then fired him Sunday for what she called "his violations of school and diocesan policies, and his violations of his employment contract obligations."

The Diocese issued a statement late this afternoon saying Bishop Rhoades and the Diocese support her decision.

But luers parents and recent graduates want some answers.

"You know, there must have been good reason or they wouldn't have let him go. I mean, I have to think they have their good principles in place," says Luers parent Kathy Boneff.

"Well, with my friends, it was pretty much like, well, what happened? They were very confused, basically. So, I mean, we've knew the guy, so why all of a sudden, out of nowhere. So, it didn't make much sense," says Bridgett Dooley, a 2010 Bishop Luers graduate.

The police department and prosecutor's office do not have anything on him, and the IHSAA responded to our request for a comment, saying it "hasn't received anything related to any rules violations committed by Bishop Luers or Coach Lindsay to this point in time."
