FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A Kosciusko teenager narrowly escaped a sinking car at Beaver Dam Lake over the weekend.
According to Indiana conservation officers, 15 year old Aubert Clevenger of Silver Lake, was backing his uncle's boat into the lake using an SUV.
That's when investigators say the unlicensed teen accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, and drove the vehicle into the water causing it to submerge.
Fortunately for the teen, the driver's side door was open and he was able to jump out to safety before the vehicle sank further into the lake.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Resources would like to remind boaters that there should always be a licensed driver behind the wheel when docking your boat into the water.
