FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - An Aboite Elementary School student is taking some big steps on the campaign trail to become JA BizTown Mayor.

Mikayla Havison and her campaign manager Megan Yoder, both fifth-graders, met with Mayor Tom Henry, D-Fort Wayne, on Wednesday as one of the final stops of the race.

Mikayla has campaigned for the job all week long, and will make a speech at an assembly on Thursday. The students will then elect the JA BizTown Mayor.

Mikayla has sought out advice from Mayor Henry on campaign strategy and to learn about the responsibilities of running a town.

The winner of the Aboite Elementary School mayoral election will serve as Mayor of JA BizTown for Apr. 22., and will oversee the one-day operations of BizTown.
