INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (RTV6) -- Police said a woman who left her car to warm up outside returned to find a thief inside Wednesday morning in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, a report came in of a car theft in the 200 block of South Holmes Avenue, near West Washington and South Belmont.

Police said a man reported that a car had been left to warm up, and his wife found a thief inside of it. They said the woman looked out to see a man inside, so she rushed out, banging on the truck, begging him not to take the car.

That's when, police said, the thief sped away with the truck.

The thief was described as white, heavy-set and bearded. Police said the truck was found and had possibly crashed nearby, with the thief running away from the scene.

Investigators said the man left another car at the scene of the crime, an SUV he had stolen from someone else.
