INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Residents at one Indianapolis apartment are at risk of being fined $75 if they fly any flag from their balcony. This restriction also applies to the American flag.

Residents at Core Riverbend Apartments have been voicing their opinions on the issue. However, leasing contracts issued by apartment management states that nothing can be hung or draped from the balcony.

Our Indianapolis affiliate WTHR asked Core Riverbend management for a comment, but were not given one.

Resident Jordan Stein says that Core Riverbend’s policy is a violation of his rights. “Me as an American, you know, I can't even express my right to be that who I am”, he states.

The ACLU was contacted about this and a lawyer with the organization said, “in a private housing complex, the first amendment does not apply”.
