CROWN POINT, Ind. (RTV6) -- An Indiana groom was killed late Saturday just hours after his wedding ceremony.

William Knight, 49, and his bride were leaving their wedding reception when they spotted a woman's car in a ditch along a road in Crown Point.

When Knight got out to help, he was struck by an oncoming car. Knight was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman he was helping, identified as Linda Darlington, 42, of Crown Point, also died.

Knight's bride, Nikki, was in the car and witnessed the tragic chain of events, police said.
Nikki Knight, a registered nurse, said neither Knight nor Darlington had pulses.

"I went from a being a newlywed to a widow in less than 48 hours — the highest high to the lowest low," Nikki Knight said. "It's a blur."

The Lake County Coroner's office said no foul play was suspected in the crash.
