FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – IPFW is making its own history by announcing their first female police chief.

On Sunday, Julie Yunker becomes the first female police chief IPFW has ever hired.

Yunker is a Michigan native and has served in the U.S. Air Force.

Most recently, her accomplishments include working as the Director of Criminal Justice Training at Grand Valley State University in Michigan where she was responsible for working with academy recruits.

Or nearly 15 years before that, she served as an officer, narcotics investigator, and teacher at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Michigan.

Yunker replaces Tony Colone who served as IPFW police chief for two years.
