FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- The Indiana Department of Transportation is developing plans for the proposed US 30 interchange modification at US 33, 0.66 mile west of I-69.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety and capacity by increasing available weaving distance for traffic merging from US 33 onto US 30.

This project involves the reconfiguration of the ramps on the south side of US 30 at the US 30/US 33 interchange. The existing US 33 south to US 30 east ramp and the US 30 east to US 33 north ramp will be removed. A new ramp will be constructed to the west of the existing ramps that will be removed.

The new ramp specs are as follows: The new US 30 east to US 33 North ramp would be constructed and would begin approximately 2,500 feet west of US 33. It will have a standard INDOT ramp exit terminal. The US 33 South to US 30 East loop ramp will have a standard INDOT ramp entrance terminal. Ramps will be 16 feet with 8 foot paved shoulders. Where ramps are adjacent to each other a concrete median barrier will be constructed. An acceleration lane would also provide a continuous lane between the US30/US33 interchange and the I-69 interchange.

Construction of the project will require approximately 10.6 acres of new permanent right-of-way. No displacement of residents or businesses will be involved with this project. The total cost of the project is estimated at $2,700,000.Construction of the project is contingent upon available funding.

Preliminary design plans are available at the Planning Department at 5333 Hatfield Road in Fort Wayne or the Hearings Examiner at 100 N. Senate Ave. in Indianapolis.

All interested persons may request a public hearing or express their concerns by submitting comments to the attention of Mary Wright, Public Hearing Examiner at INDOT, Room N642, 100 North Senate Ave, Idnaianpolis, IN 46204-2216 on or before Thursday Aug. 8, 2013.
