Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - 21 Alive's ‘I Wear Pink’ campaign stepped out of the studio Friday and onto the square in an effort to reach out to more people in the community.

"Any opportunity that you have to touch someone, educate somebody, raise attention, even if they're not here specifically for that reason they see all the pink, they see all the booths, they wonder, what's this all about," said Melissa Long, 21 Alive Anchor.

'I Wear Pink on The Square,' held at Freimann square in Fort Wayne, is a new event as part of the campaign and partnership with Parkview Health to spread awareness about breast cancer.

Francine's Friends was there to answer questions Friday, and even physical trainers were on site focusing on establishing healthy lifestyles.

"Give them that nudge that they need to go get their annual physicals, go get their mammograms, go through the different health screenings because early detection in any case of cancer is the absolute key to the cure," said Sarah Romano, Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center.

One mother heard about this event just a few hours before it happened.

"I was watching the news this morning on 21 Alive," said Sally Brandon, mother.

And she brought her two young daughters to the event.

"Prevention starts early and after you get at a certain age, as a young woman, you can start checking yourself," said Brandon.

'I Wear Pink on the Square' is all about education, but the health experts at the event say what's most important is taking that information and putting it into action.
