Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Steuben Co. Distributing Sand Bags For Flooding

HUNTINGTON/LAGRANGE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, and Steuben County officials are distributing sand bags in anticipation of flooding on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Kosciusko, LaGrange County from Thursday morning through Thursday night.

Steuben County is under a Flood Watch from 7 a.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday

Officials in Huntington County say there is the potential for flooding Thursday.

From the LaGrange County Sheriff:

Sandbags will be available for LaGrange County residents on North Walnut St. In LaGrange. You may also contact your local Fire Department and some of them will have bags but not sand. The sand will be at the North Walnut St. location.

There will be shovels and bags outside. This is a self service, nobody will be there to fill bags.

From Steuben County Emergency Management:

Sandbags will be available for Steuben County Residence starting 02-20-2014 at 8:00 AM. Due to the potential heavy rain and warmer temperatures forecasted for tomorrow there is a high chance for flooding. The County and Local City Governments will supply the sand bags and the sand. You will be responsible for filling the bags provided. Please provide your own shovel and transportation for the sand bags.

From Huntington County Emergency Management:

Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday 2/19/2014, we will be loading sand bags for public use at the Huntington County Community School Corp. Bus Terminal on St. Rd. 5, across from the Huntington Municipal Airport, just North of the Roush Dam / Reservoir. We will be providing bags and sand. We will have a limited number per individual. Volunteers will be on hand to assist in filling and loading sand bags. Transportation of sand bags will be required by the requesting individuals.
