HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) -- A 49-year-old employee of the Huntington County Health Department was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division from the Fort Wayne Post.
According to Detective Deven Hostetler, back in October 2013, an allegation of theft was made to the State Police by the Huntington County Auditor against Joseph E. Rakoczy, 49 from Huntington.
The Auditor, who conducted her own inquiry before contacting investigators, alleged that Rakoczy used a County-owned credit card to put $25.00 worth of fuel into his personal vehicle. This transaction was found after the Auditor was reconciling credit card purchases on Rakoczy's account which led her to inquire further with the gas station in question.
Following the completion of Hostetler's investigation, the findings were turned over to Special Prosecutor D.J. Sigler from the Whitley County Prosecutor's Office. The case was reviewed and a single charge of theft, a Class D Felony was levied against Rakoczy and an arrest warrant was issued. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel without incident and incarcerated in the Huntington County Jail on a $9,000 bond.
