FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Dozens of Huntington County residents learned about plans for annexation of an area of town at meeting Tuesday night at Café of Hope.

The five-phase annexation plan would add an additional 4½ miles to the City of Huntington.

Homes in the annexed area would receive city water and and sewer services, and face higher property taxes to pay for it.

Many residents are asking the city to rethink the expansion plans, citing those who live on farms and limited income.

Mayor Brooks Fetters, R-Huntington, says the annexation is part of the development of the city, and that immediate losses are worth the future growth of Huntington.
