FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A planned annexation in Huntington is no longer on the table as the Huntington City Council voted it down.

In a packed council chambers, the proposed annexation met its demise in a 4-3 vote against the first phase. Mayor Brooks Fetters asked the council how they felt about four other phases of the annexation, they voted 6-1 not to proceed.

The proposal would have added 4 1/2 sq. miles to the city of Huntington. Mayor Fetters planned on using the land to develop new residential and commercial projects.
