Public Hearings Held To Discuss Healthy Indiana Plan

May 28, 2014 Updated May 28, 2014 at 4:49 PM EDT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A public hearing was held today to discuss the planned expansion to the Healthy Indiana Plan.

At the hearing this morning, hospitals, clinics, and other health care providers explained how the revised and expanded plan will help patients and facilities.

It would increase patients use of preventative care and in turn, cut down on the number of unnecessary ER visits. Some providers hoped that there will be a focus on addressing mental health treatment and providing care for patients caught between two financial tiers.

The expansion still keeps the hybrid health savings account plan already being used by the state, but also adopts some key requirements of medicaid.
