INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- Indiana Governor Mike Pence (R) is calling on the Federal Government to release timely information on where unaccompanied children are being placed after they cross the border.

The Governor had just recently discovered from the media that 245 children were sent to the Hoosier state to live with sponsors. Pence says only after the media reports were published did the Department of Health and Human Services notify the state.

In a letter addressed to President Obama, Pence Says:

"Those who have crossed our border illegally should be treated humanely and with decency and respect, but they should be returned expeditiously to their home countries to be reunited with their families rather than being dispersed around the united states in sponsored placement or long-term detention facilities."
