INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) -- Friday the 13th could be lucky for someone in the Hoosier state! It is a lucky day for the Hoosier Lottery, which sold its first ticket on a Friday the 13th (in October 1989).

If a lucky Hoosier were to hit the $400 million jackpot on Friday the 13th, he or she would lay claim to more money than anybody has ever won in Indiana - and the second biggest Mega Millions jackpot EVER!

Hoosiers who want to try their luck at Friday night's gigantic jackpot - but aren't sure how to play or purchase - simply need to ask for the game by name at the service desk or checkout counter wherever they buy gas or groceries!

Mega Millions tickets cost just $1! Even though Mega Millions is a multi-state game, profits from the sale of Mega Millions in Indiana stay in Indiana.

When Hoosiers play Hoosier Lottery games such as Mega Millions, they are not only getting a shot at life-changing millions, they are also contributing to good causes in Indiana. 94 cents of every dollar stays in Indiana and goes back to Indiana in some way, whether in prizes to players, commissions to retailers or support for firefighter, teachers and police pensions. Lottery profits in Indiana also reduce vehicle excise tax costs by about 50 percent every year.

Locally, all Hoosier Lottery games, including Mega Millions, helped the Hoosier Lottery generate more than $39 million for Allen County in fiscal year 2012 (approximately):

• $23.9 million to winners in prizes
• $3.7 million to retailers in sales commissions and bonuses
• $2 million to police and firefighter pensions
• $1.4 million to teacher's retirement fund
• $7.8 million to Build Indiana Fund where it was used to reduce vehicle excise tax by 50 percent

Mega Millions drawings are every Tuesday and Friday night. Mega Millions has been available in Indiana since January 2010. The game is played in 43 states, the Disctrict of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly. Must be 18 or older to play. Gambling Addiction Referral Line: 800-994-8448.
