INDIANAPOLIS (RTV6) -- A former Department of Child Services director is facing federal charges in connection with an investigation involving a school counselor who was accused of secretly videotaping boys in his shower.
Michael Fleming, 58, is the former director of the New Castle office for the Department of Child Services and is currently the vice president of the New Castle school board.
The accusations against Fleming are related to the January arrest of Darrell W. Hughes . Fleming is accused of lying in front of a federal grand jury and lying to agents investigating Hughes.
Federal officials allege that Hughes, the long-time New Castle middle and high school counselor who primarily works with troubled teens, secretly taped five nude boys showering in his Muncie home.
Federal officials believe Hughes began befriending male students he counseled at school and buying the victims clothing, cigarettes and marijuana and taking photos of the teens, promising he'd help them launch modeling careers.
Police said they found memory cards containing photos of nude minor boys and recording devices in Hughes' home.
Hughes faces one count of child exploitation and two counts of attempted exploitation, and officials said they believe there could be other victims that haven't come forward.
According to investigators, Fleming told agents that he was not aware of any complaints made against Hughes, but a DCS employee told investigators that a complaint had been filed against Hughes on at least one occasion.
Fleming was scheduled to make a court appearance at the federal courthouse in Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon.
