INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive)-- A man is dead and two others are injured after a gun battle broke out over an argument that began at a family cookout on Sunday.

RTV6 reports that Wendell Vanbuskirk was shot and killed at 12:15 a.m. Monday morning at a home on the southwest side of the city. Witnesses told RTV6 that the Vanbuskirk was at the residence earlier for a cookout and while he was there he got into a heated argument with his fiance and was asked to leave.

He later returned to the residence with several other men in a truck, and began beating his fiance's mother, Lisa Farley, with a baseball bat. This caused a gun battle to break out between the men in the truck, Vanbuskirk, and the father of Vanbuskirk's fiance.

Vanbuskirk was shot and killed during the gun battle, the woman who was beaten with the bat was also shot in the face and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and one of the men in the truck, Aridith Curbeaux was shot in the head and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the dispute.
