CELINA, Ohio (21Alive) – A Fort Wayne man is dead and several others are injured in a head-on collision in Ohio.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department say it happened between U.S. 33, Palmer Road, and U.S. 127 just before noon Saturday.
According to reports, Adam Hamilton, 26, of Fort Wayne died from injuries in the crash. Hamilton was driving westbound on U.S. 33 when he attempted to pass a tractor trailer just west of Palmer Road. Hamilton then ended up in the path of Joshua Angel, 33, of Fort Wayne, who was driving eastbound with his family in the car.
Authorities say both Hamilton and Angel swerved and ended up colliding head-on in a ditch off the side of U.S. 33.
Hamilton was air lifted to a Fort Wayne hospital where he later died. He was the only person in the car.
Angel was accompanied by his wife, Christine, 34, and three children ages 4, 5 and 8. They were all taken to a St. Mary’s hospital where later, Angel and his wife were transferred to a Fort Wayne hospital.
The Sheriff’s Department says U.S. 33 was closed for approximately four hours.
