FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The Fort Wayne Air Museum will be relocating.

Right now the museum sits on the second floor of Fort Wayne International Airport where only ticketed passengers are able to view it.

That is soon going to change because officials say they want to partner with different agencies, update the existing displays and relocate the museum where everyone has a chance to explore the history of Fort Wayne Aviation.

"What a wonderful thing for Fort Wayne residents to be able to do a trail,” Jeffrey Soldner President, Greater Fort Wayne said. “They can also take a bike ride out to the airport where they can watch airplanes take off and land, maybe go over to Heritage Park and see some actual military hardware, then come over here to the airport terminal where they can see the terminal operation and a museum that tells them about local history."

Officials say they're also considering moving pieces to the History Museum and to Smith Field.

There is no word on a moving date.
