Terre Haute, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Indiana State University has suspended a student whom police say shot three men, killing one, in a school parking lot Friday.

School officials say they made the move, not because of the shooting itself, but because Mallory violated an on-campus weapons ban.

Mallory has been criminally charged with murder in the death of 24-year-old Dustin Kelly.

Police say one person is dead and two others wounded when an Indiana State University student fired shots in a parking lot on the Terre Haute campus.

Police say 21-year-old William Mallory opened fire about 3 a.m. after a fight in a bar across the street from the parking lot.

Police say Mallory is in custody after surrendering to officers in the Indianapolis area.

A 24-year-old man from Terre Haute was killed, while two other Terre Haute men were wounded.

Police says it appears words were exchanged inside the Ballyhoo Tavern and it continued out to the parking lot.
