DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of one man Saturday night.
According to Indiana State Trooper Grant Crabtree, 23 year-old Noe Munoz-Rubio of Orland was driving a 1997 BMW eastbound on State Road 4 at County Road 11 at about 11:00 p.m. Twenty-four year-old Christopher J. Hatch of Kendallville was in the passenger seat.
According to police, the vehicle went off the south side of the road, rolled over and hit a tree before coming to a rest on its top. Munoz-Rubio, who was wearing his seat belt at the time, was trapped and had to be extricated by the Ashley Fire Department. He was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Samaritan for head, neck and facial injuries. He is in serious condition as of 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
Hatch, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from vehicle as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash, which is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
