Bridge Repairs to Last Through November

April 21, 2013 Updated Apr 22, 2013 at 10:26 AM EDT

Regular commuters of Covington Road will need a back-up route until November.

The bridge overpassing I-69 guiding commuters who take the road to or from the southwest side will be closed for repairs beginning Thursday, April 25th. According to Fort Wayne officials, the repairs are expected to last until November when the bridge will be open to traffic.

The Journal Gazette reports that nearly 11,000 to 12,000 vehicles traverse the bridge each day. The detour will re-route traffic using Hadley, Illinois and Scott roads, according to city officials.

Repairs to the bridge include installation of new bridge beams and piers and replacing parts of the deck.
