Possible Residential Development Continues In Downtown Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- New residential development may be headed to the entire block west of Parkview Field.

The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission members voted unanimously to purchase land bordered by Ewing St. on the east, Fairfield Ave. on the west, Jefferson Blvd. on the north and Brackenridge St. on the south excluding the Shell gas station.

The $1.9 million land purchase expands on the 1.2 acres already owned by the city. The commission says the nearly four-acres of land would be prime for development, especially residential.

Options for the site would include development of apartments for rent and row houses for purchase. Commission Director, Greg Leatherman, told The Journal Gazette that he is envisioning 100 to 125 two-story townhouse-style apartments surrounding a courtyard.

The money to purchase this land comes from the Jefferson Illinois TIF district, which uses property taxes from district development to pay for infrastructure within the district.
