FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Monday morning, Community Harvest Food Bank celebrated serving northeast Indiana for 30 years.
Since its inception in 1983, after the International Harvester closure, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc. has been the leader in hunger relief efforts in Northeast Indiana and throughout the United States.
Community Harvest Food Bank "seeks to alleviate hunger through the full use of donated food and other resources" and it's been fulfilling the mission for 30 years! At the conclusion of the first fiscal year in 1984 Community Harvest had distributed 200,000 pounds of food and at the conclusion of the 2012-13 fiscal year, Community Harvest distributed nearly 13 million pounds of food throughout Northeast Indiana.
Community Harvest celebrated the successes of the past 30 years with partners from member agencies, donors, elected officials, organizations, corporations, and individuals who have helped accomplish milestone goals and have supported the mission of alleviating hunger.
