FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Carlos O'Kelly's has closed both of its locations in Fort Wayne, effective Monday.
Dave Phillips, marketing director for Carlos O'Kelly's says the Fort Wayne at 549 E. Coliseum Blvd. and Village at Coventry restaurants were not making enough money, and the restaurant chain decided not to re-sign leases to keep them in the Summit City.
Employees who lost their jobs and did not want to be identified by 21Alive say they were notified Monday morning of the closure.
Phillips says the abrupt closing and little notification to employees beforehand is all part of the working in the restaurant business.
Employees say the owner of the Fort Wayne restaurant owns 17 locations, all of which were closed. Phillips did not know of the exact number of stores closed.
Employees who worked at the Fort Wayne Carlos O'Kelly restaurants one year or longer will receive a severance package, Phillip says.
According to a sign on the door, if you currently have a Carlos O'Kelly's gift card, it can be used at any other location or you can get a refund by calling 316-978-9509 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
