INDIANAPOLIS. (www.incnow.tv) – The bomb squad was called into action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Indianapolis Speedway Police were called to the area after a cooler with smoke coming from it was discovered in a parking lot Saturday afternoon.

The bomb squad arrived and blew up the container after evacuating the area. When police checked it they found regular "consumer grade" fireworks inside.

As you probably know, thousands of race fans are in Indianapolis this weekend for Sunday's Indy 500. Police say although this turned out to be a false alarm, they are glad the public is keeping a watchful eye out for any suspicious activity.

"This is a prime show of what happens when you see something you say something. Today, somebody saw something suspicious out there in lot A1-C. They made a notification and when that happens you'll see what the agencies standing behind me do, and that doesn't include the FBI and other federal agencies that were out here assisting today,” said Trent Theobald with Indianapolis Speedway Police.

The incident closed the parking lot for several hours resulting in traffic jams around the track.
