Bill Advances That Would Back Tougher Penalties For Gun Crimes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The measure in the House that would allow judges to impose tougher sentences for anyone convicted of using a gun in a violent crime has advanced.

Provisions of the bill would allow the court to add between 5 and 20 years to a sentence for the use of a weapon during a violent crime.

The bill was also amended to establish a study committee to look at ways to reduce gun violence across Indiana.
